Kate Pearlman-Shaw
“I am the founder and Managing Director of Pearlman-Shaw Consultancy. For over 30 years I have specialised in applying psychology to help people change their behaviours: for the first 18 years as a UK NHS Clinical Psychologist and leader, then since 2005, using these same skills, as a leadership development expert through team facilitation, leadership development programmes and modules, 1-1 coaching and consultancy.
I have pioneered ‘behavioural leadership development’ methods that help senior leaders behave even more impactfully, helping them to change how they interact, approach their roles and crucially, make successful transformations within their organisations. My expertise lies in taking complex and current psychological, neuroscientific and leadership theories turning these into easily understandable, practical, original and personalised leadership approaches.
I am totally committed to increasing diversity in organisations, noting that many programmes focus on what is inclusivity, not how to properly enact this. Being inclusive isn’t easy, it means confronting our own beliefs and changing habits of a lifetime. I work on myself and with others to make these changes. In 2022 I was part of working party at the British Psychological Society that devised the UK’s first psychologically based Inclusive Leadership Programme.
I work 1-1 and with teams, from those based in large corporate businesses through to public sector and NFP organisations both in the UK and internationally.
I have been a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society since 2009 when this status was first awarded, then in 2022 I was one of the first Psychologists awarded Chartered Coaching Psychologist status . This is a doctoral level award for proficiency in coaching psychology: defined as 'the scientific study and application of behaviour, cognition and emotion to deepen our understanding of individuals’ and groups’ performance, achievement and wellbeing, and to enhance practice within coaching'.
I am also a Registered Practitioner with the HPCP, the UK Health and Care Profession Council, who set standards for and regulate professional practice.
I have always believed that to develop senior leaders you need senior leadership experience, this led me to take senior leadership and Board Chair roles, the first in the Social Housing sector and the second in Secondary Education.
I am a visiting Lecturer at Nottingham University, and prior to that for 14 years at Leeds University, where I teach Doctoral level students models of psychological consultation, leadership theory and organisational change.
Since setting up Pearlman-Shaw Consultancy in 2019 the brand has gone from strength to strength: we now use an experienced Associate Pool comprising Chartered and Registered Psychologists and neurodiversity specialists for coaching and experienced facilitators for our leadership development programmes”.
